your clothing label does not only hold your body size or brand name on it. Manufacturing clothes has labeling regulations, symbols and requirements that includes:

  • Fiber content
  • Country of origin
  • Washing and care instructions
  • Manufacturer identification
  • Label placement

What symbols mean?

here’s each symbol and what it stands for.

washing symbol

the washing process is by machine, and with symbol garment can be spun and washed as normal.

bleach symbol

Chlorine bleach, which means you can safely use a cold dilute bleach.

iron symbol

Iron, the garment can be ironed at any temperature.

dry clean

Dry cleaning, this means the garment should be dry cleaned unless your washing machine has a special program that will safely wash it.

Washing:

60c

 A wash tub without a bar underneath means that normal (maximum) washing conditions may be used at the appropriate temperature. (30, 40, 60, 90) or others.

30c washtub

A wash tub with a single bar under it means that the spin speed should be reduced, washing conditions (medium) at appropriate temperature.

30c wahstib

A wash tub with two bars under it means that clothes should be washed at a mild wash action, reduce to (minimum) but can be rinsed normally at the appropriate temperature. designed also for washable wool products. however some washing machines have the wool ball symbol for easier choice of program.

handwash

Wash by hand, this symbol simply means wash item by hand at 40c or lower. Many washing machines have the same symbol as a program, its for delicate garments such as cashmere or silk which cleans more gently than normal to avoid clothes from shrinking or snagging. however some washing machines have different symbol for such programs.

Bleaching:

bleach

The use of a cold dilute bleach of any kind is safe to use.

no bleach

The triangle with cross over it means that the use of bleach is not allowed.

Ironing:

nonchlorine

The triangle with two stripes, means that only the use of non-chlorine , color safe bleach is safe for use.

iron

Iron with no dots in it, means that garments can be ironed at any temperature.

Iron with one dot is for the most delicate items such as woolens and silk.

Iron with two dots is for synthetics , warm temperature only.

Iron with three dots is for linen and cotton, hot temperature.

Iron with a cross means that garments are not safe for ironing.

Tumble Drying:

This symbol means that you can tumble dry garments.

dry low

One dot indicates tumble drying at a low heat setting.

dry medium

Two dots indicates tumble drying at a medium heat setting.

dry hot

Three dots indicates tumble drying a high heat setting is safe.

no tumble dry

A cross over the symbol means your should not tumble dry the garment.
