If the iron is turned on, but not used for a while and placed vertically, it will turn off automatically after 8 minutes. When you move the iron, a sensor will detect this and reactivate the iron.

Extending your iron’s useful life

This extremely important function extends the useful life and improves the effectiveness of your iron. Let the iron heat up to a high temperature and press the »self-clean« button. A large amount of water will be released onto the hot soleplate from inside to remove any limescale or impurities from the water. If necessary, repeat the procedure until the water discharged through the nozzle is perfectly clean.
