Getting yourself and your kids up and ready for the day and out the door on time is no small task. Sometimes it can feel like nothing but chaos and shouting out commands. But what if I told you that school mornings with your kids could be relatively stress-free?
One of the worst mom guilt moments experiences is when the morning has been chaotic, rushing the kids out the door with a hurried and frustrated ‘I Love You’. I don’t want my last interaction with my kids to be frustrated and forced.
surely you want a smoother morning, here’s how to do so with better planning and time management.
WHY IS BACH TO SCHOOL ROUTINE IMPORTANT?
Weather it’s your kid’s first year in school or having several kids at school for years its important to set a plan.
Developing a school schedule is important for the entire family because it provides structure and consistency. A back-to-school routine can help your child know what to expect each day after school, which can minimize stress and anxiety, and help them be organized.
PREPARE FOR THE DAY, THE NIGHT BEFORE
Simply, ask yourself what needs to be done in the morning, do your kids have after-school activities, what chores do you have around the house? (Homework, lunch, tidy home, laundry, dishes).
write it all down for better planning and set a schedule to help you stay on track.
HAPPY MOM, HAPPY HOME!
Surely, a missy schedule and social requirements will affect your mood, lets plan to live a stress free, happy house kind of life.
1– night food prep, store in fridge
2- load dishes
3- laundry
4- homework schedule
5- household cleaning
6- list weekly grocery shopping for kids
7- Iron and lay out school uniforms & after school activities outfits (sports, outfits) a night before
8- do homework the night before
Doing such simple tasks helps you wake up to a clean calm environment, otherwise you’ll always feel like you’re playing catch-up.
OTHER MORNING PREP TASKS
There are a couple of other tasks that you can do the night before that helps mornings move a lot faster. The first one is to prioritize your tasks for the following day. That way, when your day starts, you’ll know what you’ll need to work on first.
This can be done so as well by mastering a morning routine with you kids.
1- Morning routine checklist (brush teeth, get dressed, brush hair)
2- pack lunches
3- have breakfast
4- start dishwasher
5- add prepped lunch casserole in your built-in oven (with start/delay function which helps you save time)
So far, we have talked about tasks to help you set your day for success.
AFTER SCHOOL ROUTINE
CLEAN OUT SCHOOL BAGS AND LUNCH BOXES
clean out unnecessary papers set out homework, wash hands, change clothes and have lunch, by this time prep afternoon snacks as an energy booster which they’ll need for the rest of the day for homework and any afterschool homework.
HOMEWORK STATION
Starting on homework, wither they have a homework station or bedroom desks or even on the kitchen table organizing an extra drawer for stationary will help create a motivating environment to finish up faster and enjoy the process.
Find what works best for your kids and their concentration and stick to those routines. Make sure to implement consistent expectations, like they need to get all of their homework done before they can have screen time, play or activities.
it can be fun for your kids to each organize their own drawers or station, to give them more involvement feel in your routine as a family, and each have their own stationary organized as fits them.
FREE TIME
It’s important after schoolwork is done for kids to have their free time to play and have some relaxed fun time of their own, they are still kids after all.
EVENING ROUTINE
This time can be well taken advantage of in your kid’s free time, like preparing kids dinner, for them to have and get prepared for bedtime.
setting a sleep routine for your kids can be more sufficient for them and yourself.
prepare lunchboxes and school bags for the next day, layout school uniforms for the next day, which will make kids more independent get dressed and take off one chore of your hands in the morning, you can also prepare lunch for the next day or prep leftovers. all of this will make your next morning easier and ready to start.
