If your dishes are getting clean, shouldn’t your dishwasher get clean too?

Unfortunately, food scraps and deposits do build up over time in the insides of the appliance, and it can reduce the performance of the dishwasher. This appliance is one of the most hard-working ones in your home, and you can maintain it by giving it a daily, weekly, or monthly scrub downs.

Maintaining your Dishwasher.

Daily and Weekly Cleaning

Wipe out little bits of food every day. Your dishwasher cleans a lot of food off your dishes, and those scraps can get stuck at the bottom . After each cycle, pull out the bottom rack and wipe a rag along the bottom of the dishwasher to get rid of any scraps that might be leftover . This will free up the filter so your dishes can get much cleaner. if you don’t take clean it regularly scraps may clog the filter and you’ll find your dishwasher work less efficiently by time.

Moreover, clean the inside of the door and handles to maintain a good seal of the door for more efficient results, you may also clean the control panel and the outside of the door to remove any fingerprints or grease when loading the dishes.

Rinse the filter off every week.

Pull the bottom rack out of the appliance and unscrew the center cylinder in the bottom of the dishwasher. Lift the filter out and take it apart, then rinse off each piece in your sink. Brush for any bits of food that are stuck, then replace the parts and put the filter back in your dishwasher.

Deep Cleaning Once a Month.

Clear out your dishwasher of any dishes and place a bowl with white vinegar upright on the rack and start a hot cycle to refresh the insides and remove any odors.

Remove shelves and utensil holder and clean separately in your sink with soap or vinegar to further remove smell , and clean. Then clean the empty interior of the appliance with a baking soda and vinegar solution , look for any food bits and remove if found.

Remove any greases or grim out of the spinning arms holes.
Try a toothpick to scratch anything that may be stuck to the sprinklers wholes and keep them open so water will flow over dishes efficiently. and give you the results you expect.

Exterior Cleaning

Make a baking soda and water solution using 1/4 cup of baking soda and 4 cups of hot water to form a foamy paste, this way you’ll clean the exterior without scratching the appliance, soak a soft cloth to the mixture and wipe down the exterior minding the control panel and handles. do not miss the edges as they tend to collect dirt.
Clean off the mixture with a clean cloth dipping it in clean water, if you have a stainless steel dishwasher make sure to clean with the direction of the grains. clean damp water will help not leave streaks.
if you don’t prefer using baking soda, spray a mild surface cleaner to clean the exterior of the door.

Polish the outside

if your dishwasher is Stainless steel it may tend to collect finger prints, use a stainless steel polish onto a rag or cloth and clean in circular motion.
you may need to do this once or twice a week depending on how often you use your appliance.

Run Your Dishwasher every other day.

This way will help to prevent food and other debris from building up, Occasionally run it empty, on the short, water-saving cycle, or fast 15 minutes program.
Don’t feel guilty using it all the time as its more water efficient than washing the dishes by hand.

Refill rinse aid once per month

Rinse aid helps to prevent spots on your dishes. do not use rinse aid if you have water softener.
refilling rinse aid and salts depends on your needs, check product manual on how often you should refill, many dishwashers has a warning light to remind to refill.
